c. 2021 - 2024

Overview

As pandemic lockdowns eased up, the house show scene organized by Purdue student bands became especially active in West Lafayette, peaking especially from 2022 into the spring and summer 2024. Shows were concentrated mostly in the Vine St. area and other residential streets branching off of it. Basements, living rooms, and backyards of residential homes were the most common venue, however, the scene gained enough traction to also organize Purdue-sanctioned concerts on campus properties such as Fowler Hall, the Purdue Memorial Union, and Slayter Hill.

The Transition of "The Nest"

By the end of the 2024 - 2025 Purdue academic year, a house-based venue known as "The Nest" had arguably become one of the most prominent and well-known locations of the scene. As it grew larger, The Nest organizers ran into increasingly more obstacles through community noise complaints and threats of eviction from the landlord. The organizers have since incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and begun a project to relocate into a new, permanent venue in West Lafayette.[1][2]
